I am always inspired to push more as a leader and ensure that my team has enough resources for over 4 300 employees. My team shares my vision. There is nothing impossible at a dedicated rate we can’t achieve. I encourage my team to do less talk and act more, as actions speak louder than words. I am constantly asking for updates and report because I always want to know the status of their progress. It is my duty to generate much required dialogue needed to succeed in achieving our goals. Each day we target ourselves to bring in new business and to grow our brand. I lead them to be Super Focussed and Vision Driven. I tell my team to “Let the vision move forward”. I refer to all staff as team members as our success is based on teamwork.

Makatini Group, from a humble beginning to a continuously expanding business. We feel privileged as diverse as we are and proud of the accomplishments of our people. 2019 Financial Year was the year of progress for Makatini Group, as we continued to execute a strategy put in place five years ago. We see Makatini Group’s performance as a function of discipline, reflecting our focus on fundamental industry principles and the emphasis we place on sustainable growth.

In an environment of margin compression and intense competition, we have performed quite well. We credit the strength and consistency of our strategy, the stability and dedication of our management team, and the disciplined execution by our people.

This progress was made despite some significant challenges. As challenges remain, competition is fierce, and the cost of compliance has gone up. The regulatory environment has intensified.

Our differentiation comes down to disciplined execution and customer-centricity. In these various sectors from all our subsidiaries we operate in, the only way to win consistently with Clients is to outperform on service. We continue to invest in world-class service plan.

For two years our campaigns are structured in this breakdown 60% Social Media, 20% Online and 20% Print and Broadcast.

Solbeth Protection and Risk Management a division of Makatini Group has well positioned itself in the past five (5) years as a Leader in Events Security Services, our credentials includes events such as, Umgababa New Year’s Picnic which hosts over ninety eight thousand (98 000) people, Durban Jazz Festival which hosts over thirty thousand (30 000) people and Amcor Dam Music Festival which hosts over forty thousand people (40 000). We pride ourselves by the growth this division has achieved.

We are also proud by the growth we have achieved by positioning all our subsidiary companies in the Private Sector, our private sector clients have grown by 49% and our strategy is to grow our Private Sector clientele by 75% by 2018.

Our Corporate Social Investment Initiatives

Makatini Group is committed to being a responsible corporate citizen, continuously looking for new ways to increase our impact and reach in South Africa’s disadvantaged communities. Our Corporate Social Investment Programme is driven by the Makatini Foundation.

Over and above the orphanage (Tholuthando Children’s Home) that Makatini Foundation has been looking after for over twelve (12) years. We have taken internships through Mzansi Business Forum Internship Programme where they each spend three months working on each of our subsidiaries therefore when they leave, they are assured to have gained experience in various Sectors that we cover.

Steven Evans  – Group  Head of Strategy

All company strategies require a buy-in from leadership otherwise your company strategy will have a minimal chance of success. Key leadership must be involved from the onset in order to achieve optimal strategy development. This has been a key ingredient for the success on implementation our strategy for the past three years that I have worked as Group Head of Strategy for Makatini Group.

We believe that the process of strategy formulation and development should “begin with the end in mind” and our experienced team utilise world leading “Business Tools” to guide the leaders to remain focused on creating realistic, implementable, and executable strategies.

Makatini Group follows a strategy of carefully controlled growth, which has a direct impact on the required growth of the Group and associated support demands. In the past three years we have successfully monitored that our company strategy is in line with our marketing strategy, most importantly has been making sure I carefully monitor and coordinate the implementation of these strategies.

2019 was a successful year for Makatini Group. We met key financial targets and continued to invest significantly. As part of our strategy for 2020 we will also continue to develop and implement. We are delighted with our plans for the future.

Firstly, I would like state how privileged I feel to have the opportunity to serve this institution. I wish to thank my Executive Chairman Advocate Xulu for giving me the opportunity to serve in this position for his encouragement and his confidence in me. I truly feel that the last twelve years as a Non Executive Director of Makatini Group have been fulfilling, and have given me the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the workings on various subsidiaries.

My role with Makatini Group includes constructively challenging and helping develop strategy plus to participate actively in the decision-making process of the Board, and to scrutinise the performance of management in meeting agreed goals and objectives.

For the past twelve years I have not engage in the day-to-day management of Makatini Group but I have been involved in policy making and planning exercises. I am very proud of what the team has achieve so far and with the strength strategy at hand I am looking forward to more achievement for the upcoming year.

Bayanda XuluGroup Training and Development Manager

Heading Training and Development at Makatini Group is very complex but exciting the group is very diverse and therefore it requires reliable systems in place to manager this department smoothly.

In the past two year we have upgraded our information technology systems to manage transportation costs, allocate and manage staff resources according to changing needs but most importantly analysing logistical problems and producing new solutions.

We are happy to report that this new system has enabled us to efficiently evaluate performance and quality and to better plan improvements.
